Scuola superiore Fallmerayer

The expansion project of the Fallmerayer Upper School adds six new classrooms while respecting the original building by Othmar Barth and its architectural value. The intervention includes two new rooftop volumes: one replaces the 1997 veranda, and the other is located on the northwest roof, carefully redefining the school’s overall profile. The new volumes follow the rhythm and offsets of the existing structure, while distinguishing themselves through a contemporary shell in titanium-zinc and wood. An equipped connection system links the volumes to each other and to the existing building, creating shared spaces and a usable terrace. Large glazed surfaces ensure brightness, while opaque roofs filter light. Structurally, the volumes are independent and rest on metal pillars, minimizing interventions on the existing building and enhancing seismic safety. Metal trusses and wooden decks ensure quality and rapid construction. The result is a functional, sustainable expansion that remains coherent with Barth’s architectural legacy.
