Combined Shape

New Bauhaus Museum

Weimar, 2011

Location: Weimar, Germany
Year: 2011
Project: OKS Architetti
Program: Museum
Type: Open competition

A linear and continuous sign develops the volume of the museum. The volume rises from the ground creating a large portal and establishing a connection between the square in the inner square area and the adjacent park. The museum rises up to seek a relationship with the near complex gauforum without wanting to belong to his rigid compositional scheme. A long-distance dialogue made of mutually emerging and perceptible volumes. The obtained volumetric composition also permits to take advantage of a new public space above the building that allows a walk over the city. The museum is thus presented as a total urban element, which interacts with the context and in which architectural, urban and landscape requirements converge.
