In the Le Piagge district, on the western outskirts of Florence, the project for the new inclusive equipped area transforms a residual space into an open, accessible, and shared place, capable of promoting social inclusion, well-being, and relationships among residents. The intervention was conceived with the aim of creating a park usable by everyone, where people with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, or mobility difficulties can experience play, sports, and social interaction in conditions of safety and full participation.
The project layout is defined by a sinuous path inspired by the “Game of the Goose,” a multisensory and inclusive element that connects the different functions of the park, transforming movement into a playful and collective experience. Along the path, circular spaces are arranged for different activities: inclusive playgrounds for children, sports areas for teenagers, collective urban gardens for the elderly, as well as relaxation zones and gathering spaces open to the entire community. Trees and lightweight shading structures contribute to environmental comfort and the recognizability of the spaces.
The park is organized into three main areas: a quiet zone with an orchard and urban gardens; a central public square dedicated to sports and social interaction; and an inclusive play area located in the southern part of the site. The project is completed by a photovoltaic canopy integrated into the existing parking area, contributing to the overall energy sustainability of the complex.
